Quiz Bowl students please remember your parents will need to pick you up from the school once you return from the competition on Wednesday.

Attention, teachers! The following quiz bowl students will be out on Wednesday, December 13th. They are responsible for any work they have missed.

Youth in Government students please stop by and see Mr. Moore to get a student application. This is a signature page for you and your parents to sign to go along with the online registration. If you have not registered on line for the Lansing conference see me ASAP, those need to be completed!!!

THIS WEEK:

Reminder: Wednesday, December 13th is a half day and we will be running hours 5, 6, 7, & 4.

Attention, quiz bowl students! There will be no lunch practices this week (week of December 11th). Also, due to a teacher meeting, there will no practice this Tuesday after school. There will be practice on Thursday in Mrs. Belanger's classroom.
The competition is this week, Wednesday, December 13th. Please be at the school no later than 7 a.m. to go to NMU. The bus will be out front. Bring a snack and some money for lunch. We should return between 1 and 2 p.m. Please remember your parents will need to pick you up once you return to the school as school dismisses at 11:30. If you are in the match on Wednesday, please wear a purple shirt or a Hornet shirt. There are some shirts for sale in the school store located in the library.

Community that Care youth meeting Tuesday during high school lunch.

4th grade is collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots campaign. Students may bring toys to Mr. Perry's room. Toys will be collected December 13th.

The L’Anse Yearbook is selling Santa grams from December 6th-19th during middle and high school lunch. They are $1 each and will be delivered during first hour on Wednesday, December 20th.

REMINDERS:

Juniors and Seniors: Sign up for a field trip to the Jacobetti Center on NMU's campus. Learn more about the certificate and associate degrees offered at NMU. Tentative Field trip is the week of January 29th.

Juniors: If you are interested in taking a bus trip to visit down state schools. See Mrs. Grentz by Winter Break. Tentative information:
Dates: April 16th - 18th, 2018
Universities: Ferris State University, Michigan State University, Saginaw Valley State University, Central Michigan University and a trades school in Grand Rapids.
Cost: $200 per student. (payment not due at this time)

Seniors please turn in, or email, your senior picture and baby picture to Ms. Poniatowski by December 21st. We are also in need of pictures from elementary, middle and early high school years for the remember when page and senior video. Please email or turn those in to Ms. Poniatowski asap. aponiatowski@laschools.us

Seniors: Pick up the $1,000 Marquette Builders Exchange Scholarship application from Mrs. Grentz, if you plan to attend either a college, vocational, technical or trade school in 2018 and are pursuing a career in the construction industry. The following fields may apply: architecture, engineering, welding, painting, bricklaying, plumbing/pipefitting, carpentry, sheet metal work, drafting, CAD, sprinkler fitting, electrical, HVAC, construction management or any other area pertaining to the construction industry.

Students: If you park in the back parking lot you are not able to leave until after the busses have left and please do not park in the VIP/reserved spots unless you are a Hornet Pride winner. The Cat and the space behind (partially painted white) are for students who picked VIP parking.

Students show your school spirit and wear a Purple Hornet or L’Anse Area Schools shirt to our home games and get in for $1!

There is a new school store open in the library. Sale items include: short and long sleeve t-shirts, performance t-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps, winter hats, headbands, sweatpants and cinch sacks. Lanyards and seat cushions will be arriving soon.

Students if you are interested in the Mont Ripley After School Program please pick up a registration form from the book case outside the Jr/Sr High School Office.

Tuesdays and Thursdays will be with Mrs. Wightman in room 324

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Students 18 and older: GE is looking for workers after school for 2 hours. Applications can be picked up from the GE office in the elementary or from Mrs. Grentz.

9th and 10th grade students: Check out www.keweenawtrio.org or email trioupwardbound@keweenawtrio.org for information on joining TRiO Upward Bound.

CLUB NEWS:

Attention, Quiz Bowl students! We will be having practice every Monday and Wednesday at lunch in Ms. Keyes's room until further notice. If you can't make Monday's practice because you are a member of another club that meets during that time, please attend that club meeting. We will also be meeting after school every Thursday in Mrs. Belanger's room. We will still be meeting every Tuesday in Ms. Keyes's room until further notice.

Quiz Bowl: Meetings will be held at lunch on Wednesday’s and after school on Tuesday’s in room 209.

The International Travel Club is collecting receipts from Econo Foods as a fundraiser. Please give them to Ms. Keyes or Mrs. Belanger.

High School SADD Meetings will take place every Tuesday at lunch in Mrs. Grentz’s room.

Robotics will be meeting after school on Monday and Wednesday in Mrs. Wightman's room until further notice.

Photography Club meetings will be on Fridays at lunch with Mrs. Maddux in Room 306

Every Wednesday night from 4-7 p.m. until the end of May is International Travel Club Night at Burger King so come and enjoy a tasty Whopper, tantalizing chicken sandwich, or whatever else you like! 20 % of proceeds go to the International Travel Club for their trip to Germany, Switzerland and Italy in 2019.
